Sofwave treatment: what it is and what the evidence shows

Sofwave uses ultrasound to heat targeted skin tissue, with surface cooling. Its purpose here is cosmetic lifting and wrinkle improvement. Start with the Sofwave Bangkok treatment overview, then use these FAQs to prepare questions for your doctor.

Is Sofwave the same as SoftWave TRT?

No. Sofwave Medical and SoftWave Tissue Regeneration Technologies are separate companies. Sofwave’s manufacturer confirms they are unaffiliated.

Sofwave is aesthetic ultrasound; SoftWave TRT uses acoustic shockwaves. Their indications, appointment schedules and aftercare cannot be exchanged. If you are seeking help for tendon or joint pain, arrange a diagnosis with an appropriate musculoskeletal clinician. This aesthetic FAQ does not prescribe a shockwave course.

Who may benefit, and which areas can be treated?

A doctor should assess whether your concern is skin laxity, wrinkles, lost volume or another issue before recommending treatment.

The FDA K211483 clearance covers facial lines and wrinkles, eyebrow lifting, and lifting loose under-chin and neck tissue in adults aged 22 and older. It does not promise a surgical result.

Ask which change is realistic for your anatomy and whether another approach would better match your priorities. A treatment may be technically available without being the best choice for you.

What do the studies show, and does FDA clearance guarantee success?

Studies support improvement for some patients; clearance does not guarantee your result. In the 80-person study summarized in FDA K211483, pages 5–6 of the summary, masked reviewers correctly ordered before-and-after photographs for 79% of evaluable brow cases and 80% of under-chin/neck cases. Average measured brow elevation was 0.69–0.78 mm. Patient satisfaction was 55% for brows and 50% for under-chin/neck treatment. These are different outcomes, not interchangeable success rates; follow-up included three-month assessment.

A 510(k) clearance concerns substantial equivalence to a legally marketed device. PMA is a different review pathway requiring evidence supporting safety and effectiveness for intended use. Neither establishes absolute safety. See the FDA explanation of device review pathways.

Your Sofwave appointment: assessment, comfort and timing

Book an assessment before committing to a treatment package. Use the consultation to agree on the area, likely degree of improvement, pain-control plan, total cost and follow-up arrangements.

What should I discuss at the first consultation?

Bring your medical history, medication list and details of previous cosmetic procedures. Include the dates and locations of fillers, injectables, lasers, surgery and implanted devices.

Ask the doctor to explain the proposed treatment boundaries and document a baseline with consistent photographs. Discuss what would count as worthwhile improvement for you, who will perform treatment and who will handle concerns afterward. You can review the clinic’s doctor information before booking, but confirm the clinician assigned to your appointment.

How long does treatment take, and does it hurt?

The manufacturer describes a typical treatment as 30–45 minutes; allow additional time for consultation and preparation. See Sofwave’s patient FAQs.

Do not assume that non-invasive means painless. Heat and discomfort can be substantial, and tolerance varies. Ask what comfort measures are offered, whether they affect your ability to drive afterward, and how you can request a pause. The clinician should explain the pain-control plan before starting.

How many sessions will I need?

Privato describes Sofwave as usually one session per treatment cycle, with reassessment afterward. This is the clinic’s treatment guidance, not a guarantee that one session will meet every goal.

Ask when results will be reviewed and what would justify another session. A shockwave schedule quoted for tendon problems does not establish a Sofwave schedule. This guide does not apply related-technology consensus recommendations to either device as a universal rule.

Sofwave safety: side effects and suitability

Read the manufacturer’s Sofwave safety information with your clinician. Its contraindications, precautions and possible adverse effects refer to aesthetic ultrasound; advice for SoftWave TRT is separate.

What side effects and complications are possible?

The manufacturer lists possible significant pain, tenderness, pigment changes, lasting redness or swelling, bruising, and skin erosion or ulceration. These are potential events; the list does not establish how often they occur.

Ask what reactions are expected in your case and how to reach the clinic if they worsen. Increasing pain, broken skin or a concerning change should prompt medical assessment rather than an assumption that it proves collagen is forming. Source: Sofwave safety information, section 1.4.

Can Sofwave cause nerve damage?

A small study cannot establish zero risk of a rare nerve complication. The K211483 study reported no serious or unanticipated adverse events, but this does not rule out rare harms. See the FDA study summary.

Do not accept a guarantee based only on the device’s treatment depth. Ask how the clinician handles new numbness, weakness or persistent altered sensation. Seek prompt assessment if these occur; do not wait for a routine cosmetic review.

Who should avoid treatment or needs extra assessment?

The manufacturer lists open wounds or lesions, severe or cystic acne, and pacemakers or electronic implants in the treatment area as contraindications.

Additional precautions include pregnancy or breastfeeding, infections, impaired healing, significant scarring, facial metal implants and certain medicines. Share your complete history rather than self-screening from a short checklist. The manufacturer also advises against treatment directly over dermal fillers. See sections 1.2–1.3 of the safety information.

Recovery and aftercare

Get written instructions tailored to the treatment you actually receive. Before leaving, confirm the clinic’s contact route, expected recovery and review date. Photograph an unexpected reaction if useful for your clinician, but do not rely on photographs alone when symptoms need examination.

Should I stop medicines, avoid ice or change skincare?

Do not stop prescribed medicines on the basis of an online FAQ. Tell the treating doctor what you take and ask them to coordinate any changes with your prescriber.

Rules about anti-inflammatory medicines or icing after tendon shockwave therapy should not be copied into a Sofwave skin-treatment plan. Ask specifically about cleansing, moisturizers, sun protection, makeup, active skincare ingredients and any cooling measures. Your written aftercare should state when to resume products and what to do if irritation develops.

Can I return to work, exercise or normal activities?

The manufacturer markets Sofwave as allowing a return to daily activities after treatment, but little planned downtime does not mean no possible reaction. See the manufacturer’s patient information.

Discuss exercise, heat exposure, outdoor plans and any important event with your clinician. Leave flexibility if redness, swelling or tenderness would disrupt your plans. Ask for individual advice if sedation or other medicines are used; do not assume every patient can follow the same travel or activity schedule.

Sofwave cost and consultations in Bangkok

Compare written quotes for the same treatment area and included care. A starting price is useful for planning, but it is not a full-face or face-and-neck quote unless the clinic explicitly says so.

How much does Sofwave cost in Bangkok?

Privato Clinic publicly lists Sofwave from THB 19,000 on its English Sofwave treatment page, checked on 17 October 2026. This is the clinic’s advertised starting price, not a Bangkok-wide average or a confirmed quote for your case.

The page says pricing depends on the area, shot count, treatment complexity and current promotions. Confirm the eligible area, promotion dates and total payable amount directly before booking. Prices and availability can change.

What should my written quote include?

Ask for a total that clearly states:

  • The exact device and treatment areas.
  • The planned session and shot count, with an explanation of why they suit your needs.
  • Whether consultation, numbing or other comfort measures, taxes and follow-up are included.
  • Any additional charges and the cancellation or refund terms.
  • The plan and cost if results fall short of expectations.

Compare the assessment and follow-up as well as price. Do not use US shockwave-treatment rates to estimate Bangkok Sofwave fees.

Results, combined procedures and visiting Bangkok

Plan around gradual change, access to follow-up and the exact service offered at your chosen branch. A convenient appointment should still leave enough time for assessment and an informed decision.

When will I see results, and how long will they last?

Privato describes improvement developing over approximately 3–12 weeks and says results may last around six months or longer, depending on the person. Treat this as clinic guidance, not a guaranteed duration.

Agree on a review date and compare photographs under similar lighting, expression and camera angle. Ask what change the clinician can realistically demonstrate in patients with concerns like yours. If you notice little benefit, request reassessment before buying more treatment.

Can Sofwave be combined with fillers or other procedures?

Combination treatment needs a clinician’s plan. In particular, the manufacturer does not recommend Sofwave directly over dermal filler areas. See the manufacturer’s precautions.

Bring the product names, dates and treated areas for previous injections or energy treatments. Ask the doctor to explain sequencing, recovery and alternatives. An internet rule such as “wait seven days” cannot replace an assessment of the procedure, location and your response.

Which branches can I contact, and how should visitors plan?

Privato’s official branch information, checked on 17 October 2026, lists:

  • Asoke: Midtown Building, 2nd floor; 02-258-4050.
  • Silom: CP Tower, 1st floor; 02-780-2011.
  • Ratchaphruek: The Crystal SB Ratchaphruek, 2nd floor, Nonthaburi; 02-102-2778.

Confirm Sofwave availability, the treating doctor and your appointment at the specific branch; these branch listings do not confirm device availability on your preferred day. Use the consultation contact page for arrangements.

If visiting Thailand, arrange a way to obtain follow-up after returning home. Ask for treatment records, written aftercare and an urgent contact route. Discuss your departure date before treatment rather than assuming that a short procedure guarantees suitability for immediate travel.

How do I check the device and clinician’s credentials?

Ask to confirm the actual device model and the clinician responsible for treatment. Review the site’s device credentials and doctor information, then clarify anything missing during consultation.

US FDA clearance is not proof of Thai registration for a particular unit. Request the relevant local documentation and check professional registration where needed. A certificate image does not, by itself, establish who will treat you or how complications will be managed.

Before booking: checklist and source links

Before committing, make sure you can answer five questions:

  1. Is this aesthetic Sofwave, and is it suitable for my concern?
  2. What degree of improvement is realistic, and how will we assess it?
  3. What are my specific risks and the pain-control plan?
  4. What is the full price, and what follow-up does it include?
  5. Who is responsible for my care if a problem develops?

When ready, request a Sofwave consultation and bring your questions.
